Nitrates in my tap water

Update: I sterilized the vials. I soaked 1 w rubbing alcohol, 1 in the dishwasher and just rinsed 1 w tap water. All 3 tests came back w nitrates between 20-40 ppm. I let the water run for 5 minutes before I filled them and used 2 separate faucets. Now what? Should I call the water authority?

Howdy, EPA allows for 44 mg/l nitrates, you're okay in that regard. Just change water often to come back to your high baseline. HarleyK
