nitrates vs stingrays

my nitrate has never been higher then 10 so far... i do 2 tests for nitrate, strip and liquid.

liquid i find is more accurate. both i find are hard to read. colors never match...

ive read they can handle up to about 100-200PPM before it causes permanent damage.

Though high nitrates arent good for any fish generally people that have high N03 are the ones that dont carry out regular partial water changes. These people will sooner rather than later finish up with dead fish\rays on their hands, during the breakdown of organics(Nitrification)the filter naturally produces acids, this coupled with a low KH(carbonate hardness) spells disaster for rays,Ph crash is probably the biggest single killer of tank busting fish, especially the ones kept in relatively small aquaria, use coral gravel, calcium plus or crushed cockle shell in a filter chamber to counteract this happening.

my nitrates are never lower than 80ppm never had any problems and my p14 bred in nitrates of that level

as long as you do 1-2 water changes per week you will be fine

i agree, they can get as high as 200 or so with no ill effects.

everybody has a different % amount they change...i always do 50%

looks like we all change about the same amount of water :D

in the winter when its cold hear in the UK i do 2 x 25% per week in the summer its more like 40% twice per week

just take the water out add seachem prime the fill back up direct from the tap
