NITRATES!!!

I use plants in my wet/dry filter. Unless you have a lot of them you will not get great results however they are better than nothing. Bogwood (preferably not from deforestation ) helps as well. AmQuel Plus helps with ammonia nitrites and nitrates. 20-30% water changes per week! None of this will work if you are using tap water with high nitrates. So you're chasing your tail. Find a friend with an RO unit and bum some water!! It can take months to fix. Zeolite removes ammonia and nitrates if left in for months. Research zeolite....good luck

hi bro, is zeolite work as active carbon? (absord till max , release back all out)>?

I wouldn't use ammonia removing resins, unless you want to constantly rely on them for the rest of your tank-keeping time with high nitrAte water.

You can also buy water from LFS, they sell RO and DI water for reefers. That's another option. Buying an RO would be better, in the long run.

I think that I know what you're saying. Not supplementing it as carbon but will it leach out again if not removed in time. I use to remove it monthly but KENT sells it for a denitrator. It states to only replace half of the zeolite every 3-6 months.

Not all plants are equally effective. Get some water hyacinths, my nitrate levels have never been higher than 1 mg/lt after I got a few. I've heard that they're illegal in some US states though, being an invasive species.
