rite i did have bioballs and filter pads but i removed them slowly and replace them with a sock(filter) thats when the nitrates went down to 10 but bow they are back up again so i guess ill try adding more live rock and sand to the sump with a light what kind of algae is preferred?

o could i grow the algae in the over flow ? u know the area where the water flows into and the n from there flows into the sump? i have light already there and sand so all i have to do is grow algae rite? or is it better in the sump?

You need to clean the sock filter everywater change to keep the nitrates down. Also you need to blow the dritius of your rock every couple of days that will also cause nitrate problems.
