Nitrite problems...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
:wall: ok you're just not listening. You need BIO MEDIA not purgen or carbon. Those are chemical media.

Something like this.

Im using purigen like joraejay did until my nitrites go under control then im adding the fluval ceramic rings

I have read this post and man I feel for your fish. Anyways listen close. By using the chemicals you are actually starving the BB if u use carbon etc there is no ammonia for the BB to live off of
Because the chemicals are getting to it first. Stop using it NOW plain and simple. Get something for the BB to live off of like the pic posted earlier.

I had this problem with a 29 gallon tank, some mistakes were made. The only way you're going to correct this is by boosting your bio media in your filter. When I got my own tank, I bought a used tank and filter that had some bb in it already on it's bio media. I've since added an AC110 with Biomax and the just the sponge. No carbon. In the original filter (Marineland Emperor 280) I have just a small sponge and bio balls. I do 2-10 gallon minimum changes on it a week. I have 3 BGJD's and 1 EBJD in this tank with a 8" common pleco and a bala shark. What these guys are saying to you, is you need to add things like Biomax (ceramic pieces with lots of surface for bb to grow on, a sponge or a combination of the 2). Because until you add that stuff, it's NOT going to ever be right. The chemicals never get rid of the problem, just keeps your fish out of immediate danger. Get you some substrate back in there, it will help you colonize bb as well and do water changes until you get it all cycled and under control. I am far from a pro at this, but I've lost enough fish due to water problems on that 29 gallon tank to learn real fast how important bio media is, and that you could never really have too much of it.

Joeraejay corrected himself in post #24.

I suggest you stop and reread your thread again from the beginning.

Many have attempted to answer your question to no avail.

All that being stubborn will do is prolong the problem.:)

Being stubborn will also not help the fish any, most likely these poor fish will perish with this attitude. As said, re read and listen.

I just took the fluval 405 off of my 50 gallon and am using it with the magnum. Thanks again everyone who chimed in

Also, no being stubborn here im just trying different things from different people until more than half of everyone started to say to use some ceramic rings
