i have a 120 that i set up a year ago and i dont recall this problem when i set up the other tank.
i did a water change 30% three days ago due to a spike in the nitrites
then tested the water the next day it was fine i went to work came home it went up from .25 in the morning to 1.0 at night , another water change %50
then today the same story i tested the water before work and it was ok nitrites were .50 then i came home and they were at 2.0

a few things i do already know
it takes about 4-6 weeks to cycle a tank
this tank has only been up for 3 weeks but i had no choice but to put my fish in the new tank due to the fact the other one was sold.

my question, is this normal?
even after 2 consecutive water changes?
any info or help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

I belive it will do that until the tank fully cycles, and water changes will make the cycle take longer. Hold off on water changes until it fully cycles.

i dont want to kill my fish that i have in there and if i let it keep going i know there will be problems

:WTF:

As long as the water you use for make up is treated to remove chlorine and chloramines, there is no problem changing water during the bio bug establishment period.
I recommend reducing the feeding until you have some measured nitrate and your nitrites start dropping. Until then keep up the water changes IMHO.

does with prime every 24 hours, that will help, or see if you can find some biospira

ive only been feeding once a day and about half of what i will normaly feed since i put them in there, i will try and get some biospira thats what i used to cycle my first tank i didnt use it this time because i had established media to start my new tank, but its worth a shot

yes.. Your tank is doing a cycle.. It will go away. By changing water your only slowing down a cycle. As it needs to go and cycle each stage out. .... well not really slowing down. but all levels are going to get high then come back down when cycle is done..

Yea you just need to be patient. It will come around my tank is about a month old and i have been keeping record of every change. I just went through the same thing just be patient. Still do W/C weekly but back down a bit. Your not helping the process by constant changes. You need to let the tank settle.
