Nitrite?

I have added stuff that said it lowers nitrite, did water chages, and I have a good filter....What else can I do please! I need help I am loseing fish!

double dose prime water conditioner, make sure the water is well aerated tho as a high does of prime decreases oxygen levels.

that will take care of the immedient danger.

add more biomedia to the filtration, if theres no more room get a bigger filter.
btw what is a good filter? and what is your gallonage? and what is the stocking?

also what is your ammonia, and nitrate level?

stop adding fish for now, this is probably a given, but i thought i would say it.

Filter is a Laguna pressure-flo 1400 uvc with integrated ulraviolet sterilizer/clarifier- 11watts (What the boxs says lol)

Nitrite 3.0ppm
Nitrate 40ppm
Alkalinity 120
ph 7.6
That is all my test strips show me? Stock is 3 8''-10'' koi, 1 18'' koi, and a channel cat about 6''. Pond is 300gal.

biomedia is something in the filter for bacteria to grow on. does your filter come with biospheres(thats biomedia).

bioballs, ceramic circles, sometimes sponges, sometimes rocks. anything can be biomedia, but you want something with a high surface area to volume ratio, so more bacteria can grow on it.

it seems like you do have bacteria to convert nitrites to nitrates but it isnt caught up to the new additions to the pond. it is important to only add one fish at a time. and wait until your filter can catch up.

Ok yes it has bioballs in it....and I have done alot of intenet seach on pond cycing. I understand now that I have messed up big time by added the fish so early. The only this I dont know is how to let the pond cycle without killing the rest of my fish? Or is it just going to have to be my lose for messing up? I did a 100% water change and the nitite is back to 0ppm and the fish are loving it, but I know the water chage just means I started the cycle all over? Also thanks to eveyone who has helped!

no you can add prime, it will detoxify nitrites and nitrates(which is why i like it), but still keep them in the tank for bacteria to eat. it does remove ammonia tho. it will definitely slow down the cycle tho. you will have to go really slow when over using prime. i would wait atleast a month for the filter to catch up. the problem with prime is that some test kits show detoxified nitrites and nitrates and some kit don't. you would need to ask seachem if you brand kit will detect them or not.

the large water changes wont restart your cycle persay, unless you do it in a way that damages bacteria colonies. the large water changes will slow down the bacteria colonies growth since they are taking away there food to some degree. so they may drag out the cycle.

prime is good stuff tho in addition to detoxify it also enhance fishes slime coat. plus it treats more water then most other water dechlorinators on the market.

as a child in middle school i used prime, to keep 7 5 inch goldfish in a 10 gallon until i got a stock pond. if you use it right(i.e enough of it) you should be able to avoid fatalities

Sounds like the BB has not had a long enogh time to catch up to the bio-mass. If the temp. of water change water is close to the exsisting temp. any BB will be OK.

Should I take the fish out and put them in somthing smaller to do more water changes and use prime, and let my pond cycle for a month or so. Then add the fish back slowly?
