Nitrite?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They also sell live bacteria for freshwater and saltwater, Never used them myself but you can look into that, im sure your LFS can hook u up if u go and talk to them.. Its says it will help ur tank cycle faster and that they contain millions of BB.. Maybe someone on here knows more about them..

I have never seen live bacteria for FW and SW sold by stores unless these are the miracle bottles again. Are these miracle bottles or filter media? If filter media, these should not be sold necessarily.

I have added stuff that said it lowers nitrite, did water chages, and I have a good filter....What else can I do please! I need help I am loseing fish!

We need more details than this to give advice. How large is your pond? What type/size/number of fish are you stocking? What filter are you using?

What are all of your water parameters?

What pump are you using with the filter? What is your ammonia level? What are you using to aerate your water?

The reality is that 300 gallons is far too small for the fish that you have. A general rule of thumb for koi, which produce a huge amount of waste constantly, is about 10 gallons per inch of fish. You have about 67" of fish in your pond, which would require about 600-700 gallons of water. And your fish are still babies!

If you are stuck with your 300 gallon pond, I would recommend adding a large biofilter running on a separate pump, and adding a ton of aeration via air stones, water falls, and/or fountains.

You can retrofit a homemade biofilter fairly cheap and easy. Also make sure that each time you do a water change you add dechlor BEFORE you add the new water to prevent damage to your developing bacterial colonies.

I dunno, I was talking about BIO-Spira by marineland or safestart by TetraAqua.. All I know is they sell the BIO-Spira at my LFS and it has to be kept at refrigerator temperatures so the live bacteria doesnt die quickly.. I have not used this but from reviews I have read seems like a legit product.. Not sure if these are the miracle bottles ur talking about or not?

I was using a max-flo 600, But i have taken that pond down and have started up a 10' 1100gal intex pool for my new pond. I have taken all the great info you guys have gave me and started over so thanks to everyone that has helped out!!!

Salt will take nitrite down, as well as live aquatic plants naturally. Benneficial Bacteria/BB. You can boost with a water conditioner with bio-extract could help cycle it faster new setup. A months time running most likely a partial water change will work wonders. Whats taken out must be put back in though to get a good bio balance. GL
