Because it is one of the best fish foods on the market.

Ok lol thats not going to change my buying habits.I use about 10lbs of nls a year.and another 20lbs of other prepared foods.Worth askin though, thanks.

FYI - Petco will not be carrying the larger sized containers.

Could do without the flour and soybean, but not bad. Vitamin A acetate is the cheap, most toxic version of vitamin A. I wonder why they used it over palmitate or carotene. I do like the ferrous iron and other minerals, though. Seems fairly complete. I think I would feed it to my fish.

Wheat flour is used soley as a binding agent, and sans the wheat flour, the food would simply fall apart. Wheat flour is not an issue, unless used in excessive amounts. The "soybean" used in NLS is soybean isolate, which contains none of the anti-nutritional factors found in soybean meal, and it is actually now being dropped from the formula.

All forms of vitamin A can potentially be toxic if used in excess, but in 16 years since this foods release to the public I have not heard of a single case of any fish suffering from hypervitaminosis. On the flip side, I have seen studies where fish have gone blind, and even died, from a lack of micro-nutrients, including vitamin A, when fed other commercial brands of fish food exclusively.

Its not cheap! I paid 10 bux for the 150g (5.3oz) size, but that should last a few months with my rotating feeding schedule. I didn't check for 5lb buckets....

wow thats pricey. to get the equivalent of a bucket would cost $150. It might be convenient but its still cheaper to order a bucket online. Also the stuff smells horrible or is that because its the thera +A

The Thera-A is quite a bit more potent.

Ok that explains a lot because opening the bucket is not a very pleasant thing to do, by the way thanks again for the 5 pounds still have like 4.5 pounds left.

The TherA has a very high inclusion rate of garlic, hence the odour.

I wonder if Petsmart will follow ? I like Petsmart better!

Since Walmart is starting to carry more basic fishkeeping supplies (and other expanded pet inventory), I hope Petco & Petsmart will both start catering to the more specialized fishkeepers. There's no way they can compete with Walmart's prices on all that cheapo Wardley/Tetra/Aquaculture junk, so it makes sense for them to shift their inventory up a step or 2. That's the only way to make up for the lost market share... My local Petco has always carried a better inventory of plant stuff than the Petsmart down the street.
