NLS - ginseng added and no more squid meal ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BTW Tableau, living in Montréal, Québec you should understand the label problems better than most. By law, NLS cannot even be legally sold where you live in Canada, as it does not contain a label written in French. A number of years back someone in the Montreal area complained to the "label police", and they forced Big Al's to pull all NLS containers off of their shelves.

Hehe, Neill, you really are a devoted professional.

In the EU let me tell you that it is a ridiculous hassle to get US produced pet food. NLS is here, but "through informal channels " as js a lot of other american branda.

With the exception of the UK, Hikari was legalized 2 years ago, only....

Talk about grey bureaucrats inventing stuff to keep their job....

Neil, I don't get it.....should I stop buying NLS?????
Well I would, but I have seen my fish spit out an entire krill to take the 4.5mm nls instead(it was frozen krill),
but gensing over squid don't make sense.......
time to write a letter to the politicians, but they never listen, lol

Ivan, as previously stated I wouldn't lose any sleep over any of this, by this time next year you probably won't see Ginseng on the label any longer due to the ever growing amount of red tape/regulation in this industry. Ditto to the fruit & vegetable extract. But those ingredients have very small inclusion rates, trust me the addition of, or subtraction of either won't even make a slightest blip on your fishes radar. Please keep in mind that for over 15 years, neither of those ingredients were present in any NLS formulas.

As far as the Squid Meal, the problem there is again one of regulations. Apparently Squid Meal is not (or no longer) an APHIS approved ingredient, which means that a number of countries in the EU will not allow its presence in animal feed, including fish food. No problemo if all one is doing is selling food within NA, but a rather big problem for those companies with a large overseas market.

Funny that no one noticed that soybean was not on that label. While New Life has always used a premium & rather expensive form of soybean (isolate) the complete removal of soybean is a big plus in my books, and something that I've personally wanted to see for a long time. No more soy, no more squid, but a lot more krill & herring.

At the end of the day it all balanced out in a very positive way.
