I've only ever lost 2 eels. One lived about 8 years (was fed a lot of goldfish when younger) and they other didn't make an 8 hour drive.
Eels are VERY VERY hardy fish, VERY simple to keep, and best of all DO NOT consume a bunch of your time. Best of all feeding time is one of the most impressive sights you can possibly see in an aquarium.
