That's a spotted silver dollar. Lucky you, they're pretty rare. At the lfs where I use to work we once got one that was mixed in with the regular silver dollars.

I have seen spotteds turn into regulars. thhey are just babies

According to Jesse (Ichy) the silver dollar is Metynnis maculatus, the spotted silver dollar.

He's gone from 2" to 4.5" (both approximate) from the very end of May till now (3 months). So the average 1" a month seems about right.
