His mouth opens a little. He's able to eat some frozen blood worms as they float through the water. He has tried to eat some pellets but spit them out. Don't know if he couldnt eat or just didnt like that type. Got them in his mouth but then spit them He attacks the baster when he sees it. Definitely still has the tempermental attitude and will charge anything that goes near him and flares his gills. I had tried popping it back in, but it i so wedged that outside of cracking something, hoping it doesnt break the skin, and hopng it fits back in place i think that would cause more stress and harm than leaving it as is.

He's almost 2 months like that and there has been minimal thinning out, but I think that's because the only thing I haven't seen him really able to get to is the cut market shrimp unless he's eating it at night.

Three months in and he's still hanging around. Still chases everything in the tank. The upper lip doesnt extend as far down. I think he learned to eat by going to the bottom of the tank, taking a mouthful of sand and pellets/bloodworms, and then spitting out the sand. Every once in a while he seems frustrated that he can't get anything from the top, but besides that I'm not seeing any indication of pain or discomfort. Temperament is just the same as before the injury. But I guess he won't be on the cover of Tropical Fish Hobbyist anytime soon.

the funniest thing is that he uses his new face sort of like the front of trains that were used to push cows off the tracks and just shoves them off to the side. but since he can't open his mouth enough it doesn't cause any damage. as much as i hated it happening since this fish has great personality, the silver lining is that i can actually now grow stuff out in the tank rather than having everything become a fish nugget.

That is gold. Sad but good. Good luck on recovery
