My one and only attempt to raise Umbee's turned out the same way as past people have experienced. My 2 6-inchers killed 5 3-5 inchers. Then turned on each other. I had no room at the time to move any out so nature took it's course. I thought I had a male and female pairing off. Guess what? They both were female. Out of 7 the top 2 ended up female. I gave them back to the LFS and replaced them with a mated pair of Red-Tigers that have bred successfully for 3 years.

When I took the Umbee’s back to the LFS and told the owner Chris about my experience he said that he "heard" the same story a few times and thought that maybe females grow faster at first. He's been in the field for 30 years so take it for what it is worth.

It is possible that many females got passed down by breeders and the experiences some people had were simply females killing other females.

I do not know, and will keep both scenarios in mind should I build my dream set-up downstairs and go for an Umbee again. I.e. keep them separated for a year if I can.

Okay this is going in the wrong direction I rather not this turn into something bigger

the end.
