Awww...:( I like Bettas, but if there's too many, might as well put them to good use. What are they going to be fed to?
My pike cichlid, apistos oscar, basketmouth turtle etc... will relish them

Very cool congrats on the babies. I have a bunch of quistions for you thow. First i read a bunch of info on breeding these guy's a while back and it said that even the male and the female would fight to the death that they needed to be in the same tank but with a devider and one would lay the eggs and the male would fertilize them some how exct. But it looks to me that you have them in the same tank exct. And on the last note i have persnally put betta's in the same tank when i was younger not knowing and they thrashed each other. So my quistion on that note is oviously you can't have hundreds of little tanks to grow the babbies in so at what size do they become mean to each other. ANy ways good luck on this and i hope to see more info and a few up dates on this subject i'm very interested. Thanks for you'r time and cool accomplishment.

SIncerely

ok just so you know i broke all the rules.
1 i had heard that you can keep two bettas in a big enough tank. i found that you can but one will have shredded fins.
2 i simply introduced the female to his tank with no shelter. i will never do that again. the female got hurt.

to answer your great questions the female will not fight to the death though she may die from the males constant chasing.
i dont think it would work to let her lay the eggs in another tank as the male must squeeze them out.
i have heard that the babies will attack each other at about 2 cms. i have mine at the moment in a 15 gallon bucket but not all the fry will grow that large.

firstly, you will have to condition the male and female by letting them see each other for a period of around 2-3 days.

the male will build bubble nest while the female show vertical stripes when they are ready to mate.
when they do show these signs, release the female in to the tank with the male in it.
the male may attack the female before mating but nothing to worry about if it is only some fin tear.
during the next few days, the male will wrap around the female to mate and fertilise the eggs.
the male will then put these eggs into the bubble nest.
after which, remove the female from the set up and let the male do his thing. :nilly:

you can put females together (with hiding spaces though) but males will have to be seperated.

this is how i condition them prior to breeding.
hope this helps.

i agree. this is good info and i whish i had known this before i started breeding but luckily the female was old enough.

i feed them dry foods for now and the occasional mosquito larvae.

If youre in the US petsmart and petco both have female bettas.. You could always order off of Aquabid too (if elsewhere, or just want nicer looking females).

They are easy to breed actually thanks you all. and keep em comin

I remember reading about them as a kid and thought they were hard to breed. If they are easy to breed and you have them, I'd use them as feeders, too.

neat!
