chesterthehero does really deserve that BRAVO from DR J. You got a good plan with waterchanging and you think of water to your fish as the air we breath. I like that kind of thinking because fish don't have a choice of the water they swim which is sort of like we don't have total control of the air we breath in. There are preventative steps to make water and air cleaner so we can live a better life. Also, every geographic location has different minerals and chemicals in their tap water system. I usually add dechlorinator in a 35 gallon trash can full of water then use a pump to transfer it into the tank. On the another tank inside the house that is not easily accessable to a water hose I just add dechlorinator directly into the tank then drag a garden hose into the house to fill it up.

I bet this new waterchange setup sure beat the bucket system and make waterchanging less of a chore.

hahahha i wish.. that pump was like $80 and the vinyl tubing was like $1.20 a foot (x 20 feet)... :irked:

however that pump is going to be out of the waterchange business whenver i get around to setting up the 75 thats in the back yard.. which means ill have to get another one :irked:

What does the pump do? Sorry I'm changing over from hand held water syphon so I haven't gotta clue :confused: But looks like it makes things easier.

Very nice. But here goes my stupid question for the day. In the very first step, when you are siphoning the tank into the bucket in the tub, how do you start the water to siphon? Your approx. 20 feet from the tank.

the pump sends the water from the tub to the tank


hose from shower --> tub --> tank

I'm going to ask the same question, but I'm going to admit to greater stupidity. I've used my mouth to start a gasoline siphon but I wouldn't want to do it again or with fish tank water.

hehehe both of you...

just give it one big quick suck... you dont need to suck till water comes out the end.. just till it starts to flow... then gravity will take care of the rest... ive yet to even get my lips wet...

if you really want to go nuts fill the hose with water (or most of the way) put one end in the tank (keeping the other end capped with your hand/t-valve) then just hold the end of the hose lower than the tank and uncap it.. the water will flow..... like water..
