So I tried adding feeder convicts to some of my tanks multiple times. Most of the time, the convicts avoided predation and grew too large to eat and began to nip at the intended predator and they were traded into my LFS or fed to my wolf fish.
The most recent time though, I added about 10 small 1/2-1" convict fry to my 40 gallon tank with a red tail vampire tetra, nandus nandus and ageneiosus catfish as well as other fish.
Today I woke up to a dead Emporer Pleco whose stomach was torn open and two convicts eating at it's insides. And my Ageneiosus catfish was torn up pretty badly as well (but he did survive).
Needless to say, all the convicts got the wolf fish treatment once I destroyed my tank in order to catch them.
Convict feeders IMO can only work in a bare tank with large cichlids that will not wait to eat a fish.
