No more feeder convicts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Where are you getting cons for only a buck or less? Around here it's at least $4 for ones that are only around 1" and get up to $10 for a full grown adult, and I'm talking about blacks, the pink ones are about 50% more.

i've got 4 small lfs not including the 2 big chains, only one of them has them that cheap. The rest are 4 bucks. The one that has them a buck each has a 29 gallon tank with nothing but convicts that are constantly breeding and then he takes the fry into a tank and lets them grow out, buck each. none of the stores are willing to take in fry for credit though

Cons are usually around 2 to 3 dollars around here, but that's for huge old ones that look good. Young are often free or just a few cents each.

The LFS I worked at closed down but I was selling them super cheap. The parents were given to us for free and eventually sold together for $10. Always had tons of fry. I'd sell under 1 inch for $1 and most of the bigger ones for $2-$3. Petco and the other LFS Usually charge $4 for normal colored, I think.
The ones I just got are all pinks and were the result of 2 female cons dropped off that laid eggs within a week. They've had them all summer for $5 (even when they were tiny) but they wanted them gone so they dropped em to a buck a piece AND buy one get one free. There were 7 left, I asked for 6, got the lot for $4. :headbang2
Two are pretty runty but they growing like crazy, the 3 biggest are about 1.5 inch.

If anyone nearby wants con fry next year I'm sure I'll have some for cheap, lol.

I breed guppies, there just aren't enough of them for my needs and I like convicts. Somehow, when your fish can down 2 dozen guppies in one gulp they just aren't big enough anymore!

First of all Convicts are way easy to acquire and breed like crazy so its not expensive. In Fresno I can get 25 convict frys as trade for some fish food. Trust me when I go to these people's house they got 3-4 generations of convicts, jacks, and jewels that they can no longer keep.
What qualifies for feeders? Any fish small enough to fit in another bigger fish's mouth, lol. I know it but I've had expensive fish that gets killed and become food.
Yes Yes...Convicts do not make good feeders because they are resilient and very fast and good escapers of predators. Not only that but they challenge bigger fishes and as we all know some fishes easily get Punkd out. Wrigglers and Waxworms are scrumptuous and parasite free

Your stupid mistake. I tell people all the time don't use them as dithers or feeders. It can often backfire on you.
Sorry I'm a :newbie:...but what are dithers?
Thanks.
