If you were to sell any of your fish to someone, would you offer a return for a dead fish? I wouldn't. I really see no need to have any type guarentee.
"so i am awfully careful when i buy expensive fish"
I would probably have a nervous break down with a $200+ fish.
The place I mentioned doesn't accept returns on live plants or other animals either. I'm not sure how common that is. Most of their stock looked healthy though, except for the feeder guppies and a huge saltwater fish(active but had sores).
I thought returns were more common. Have seen many posts on MFK with people mentioning returns(sometimes for store credit)

If it was clearly my fault. I might even offer them a small extra(discount on their next order, etc) in order to keep their business. I understand that this can be hard to determine sometimes
My Lfs offer a return policy but you must bring a water sample. Every store is different. The more exotic the more chances of no return policy. Of coarse they also charge 20 bucks for a small clown loach sooooooo
its pretty funny at my lfs they said no live animal returns then a week later they wrote or dead...lol but the said thing is i buy some not so cheap fish ther but i take good care of them so no waoorrys. petsmart is crazy...lol
