its in japanese, but it doesnt really say much. just pictures of oscars from what i gather.

hah, yeah. your right. I didn't notice the scientific name at the top. Just said it was an Oscar because it literally looks just like them. Now I want to know what it says. :D

Astronotus is still the same family as oscars...so techinically they are an oscar...;). I would expect the same type of requirements...;). Email Rapps, i've seen them on his list before...;)

So does that mean a convict or a flowerhorn are oscars ? there cichlids !

No mate !!!

This particular fish grows smaller than the Oscar a good 5/6" smaller.

Sorry i don't mean to be arsy with you !

They're the same genus as the common oscar.

Range:

Astronotus crassipinnis is reported to come from Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru: in The upper Paraguay and the Bolivian Amazon including the Guaporé, Mamoré and Madre de Dios.As well as parts of Brazil Although several people disagree about A.crassipinnis actually being in Brazil.

Differences :

Some differences in the Astronotus crassipinnis I've seen that distinguish them from Astronotus ocellatus. Astronotus crassipinnis seems to be a heavier built, thicker bodied fish. A. Crassipinnis also has a base color of black instead of the dark green of A. ocellatus. The stripeing/barring of A. crassipinnis also seems to be better defined and almost always white.

Care in the aquarium for Astronotus crassipinnis:

Crassipinnis do perfectly fine set up under the same conditions as common "Oscars".
