no substrate tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
After looking through alot of the photo threads I noticed that there are quite a few larger tanks that do not have any substrate, mainly the Aro pics and the a few on the Polypterus. I keep substrate mainly to keep plants anchored and to give my clown knife something to scratch on.

my new 585 will be a barebottom. Only for the ease of mantaince. It will however have one piece of driftwood. for a hiding place or two.

you go koop171 and rub your 585 in our face:D,
.
but yeah, it all depends on your stock to.

Quite honestly I use substrate because I think it make the tank look better that is just my opinion. 90% of tanks I see without substrate don't look good, again my opinion. But I do get the reason it will keep your tank clearner. But with frequent siphoning and water changes I don't think it matters.

They are good for breeder tanks, I would never do a "show tank" without substrate. I have 13 tanks setup right now and 3 of them are barebottom. Two of them are 100+ gallons, and the other is a 10gallon fry tank.
