Found out recently when I got hired on at MBM (a warehouse) that in the handbook it says you don't get vacation until you complete a full year of work. Seriously? This isn't your typical work 40 hours or work some overtime type of job. Came off working almost 32 hours in the past 2 days (Sunday/Monday). I'm a freezer selector FYI. It's crazy here, I went in at 2pm on Monday and got off at 6am on Tuesday and there were still people working. The holidays are coming up and we have to work a 6th day and it's suppose to be even busier. And your telling me I can't get any vacation for a year, pffft. I understand not just getting 2 weeks off the bat or even waiting 6 months for a week or at least accrue it like alot of places are, but none at all! With working easily 55 hours on the lower side you can easily get burnt out and were always having problems with call offs with the temps and even full time employees. You would think they would want to try to keep you, the turnover rate is crazy here. The money is great, I don't even know what to do with it all since we have very little bills. I don't think I want this lifestyle though, never see my girlfriend besides my two off days. Get off way too late besides a shorter Saturday shift.

Anyone else worked at a place where you had to work for a year before any vacation?

When I worked for my last company I didn't get vacation for a year then after your year you got 2 days that was either vacation or sick time. we got no dedicated sick time so if we were out sick we go no pay. I was working in a nasty, dirty and hazardous machine shop 7 days a week 10-15 hours each day building heavy machinery for steel mills(smallest equipment we built was 18 tons) for the first year with no paid time off. You could always tell the guys that were there for less than a year because of the dark circles under there eyes, spaced out conversations and the occasional moment of insanity. That first year, lost the love of my life, I had no social life, no nothing. It was work eat sleep repeat and sometimes the sleeping or eating didn't get added in there. That company was a multibillion dollar world wide company which is in the top 3 largest companies in the world if not the biggest. It sucks but it is way more common than you may think and there view is if you don't like it there is the door. No one looks out for the little guy anymore, it's sad! But like you the money I was making was insane and that's what kept me there.

Most of the time that means you dont get any PAID vacation until after your first year.
You can still take vacation, it just won't be paid.

Hello; A job that pays well is a good thing to have in this economy. I imagine there are many without work that will gladly trade places with you.

I work 8 hours a day and 6 days a week. Haven't filed a single sick leave, emergency leave or vacation leave in eight months so far.lol I just like my attendance spotless aside from my performance. Hahaha! The only times I get absent are Sundays and holidays. Still work half a day in some holidays though so I get to earn my double holiday pay aside from overtime.

My first vacation leave will be on December when I join a fashion show. Got a modeling offer on that so I accepted that invitation. Possibly a trip to another island to see my girlfriend for a moment and then Christmas holidays.:)

i think not having paid vacation for a year is normal for alot of places. it just means you won't earn paid vacation for a year but you can still take time off but its already been said.

what the heck?? that don't sound right. isn't it illegal to make someone work 7 days a week for a regular schedule? i can see temporary but for a whole year???

if it's not illegal, it should be

to ts, man, if you are making good money with little bills, dude, IN THE TIME OF PLENTY,................ SAVE

Yeah that's typical of most places. That's why you get an edumacation. Get those well-paying jobs with lots of perks. 3-5 weeks vacation from the day you start, sick leave, health insurance, stock options etc etc. I can pick up and go run any errands anytime. Nobody asks questions, no boss breathing down your neck, take a day off whenever, come in late, leave early, work from home, screw around online all day... Gotta consider myself lucky :)

If the money is that insane and you have no bills...work for a couple of years and retire, lol. All the vacation time you want right there!
