No vacation for a year!?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When I worked for my last company I didn't get vacation for a year then after your year you got 2 days that was either vacation or sick time. we got no dedicated sick time so if we were out sick we go no pay. I was working in a nasty, dirty and hazardous machine shop 7 days a week 10-15 hours each day building heavy machinery for steel mills(smallest equipment we built was 18 tons) for the first year with no paid time off. You could always tell the guys that were there for less than a year because of the dark circles under there eyes, spaced out conversations and the occasional moment of insanity. That first year, lost the love of my life, I had no social life, no nothing. It was work eat sleep repeat and sometimes the sleeping or eating didn't get added in there. That company was a multibillion dollar world wide company which is in the top 3 largest companies in the world if not the biggest. It sucks but it is way more common than you may think and there view is if you don't like it there is the door. No one looks out for the little guy anymore, it's sad! But like you the money I was making was insane and that's what kept me there.

That doesn't sound llike something I want in my life at all! lol

Hello; A job that pays well is a good thing to have in this economy. I imagine there are many without work that will gladly trade places with you.

You want my job? lol There's somethings in life that's worth more than money.

I work 8 hours a day and 6 days a week. Haven't filed a single sick leave, emergency leave or vacation leave in eight months so far.lol I just like my attendance spotless aside from my performance. Hahaha! The only times I get absent are Sundays and holidays. Still work half a day in some holidays though so I get to earn my double holiday pay aside from overtime.

My first vacation leave will be on December when I join a fashion show. Got a modeling offer on that so I accepted that invitation. Possibly a trip to another island to see my girlfriend for a moment and then Christmas holidays.:)

The good old 8 hour shift. We work 8 hours or a little over on Saturdays our shortest day and it seems like nothing anymore, lol. I can't wait for Christmas vacation or not.....best holiday ever!!!

yup had to be were im at for a year befor u get vacation. Most places around me are like that. I have only heard of a hand full that you had to work 9 month befor you got 3 day vaction.

Vacation! Whats that? I work for myself and haven't had a vacation since '07.

what the heck?? that don't sound right. isn't it illegal to make someone work 7 days a week for a regular schedule? i can see temporary but for a whole year???

if it's not illegal, it should be

hahaha I was waiting for someone to comment on this...lol that schedule was not required but offered we were required to work 10 hours a day 5 days a week but I was saving for a house so i took every damn minute the company gave me. It's all worthless now because since I have been sick and became disabled I pissed through all my savings for medical bills and insurance payments. when i was cranking those hours out though it was awesome I was making 40 hours straight pay then time and a half over 40 then on Sundays is was straight up double time so if I put in a 15 hour day that was like 30 hours of straight pay and I was on second shift getting a 10% shift differential on top of all that. God I miss that Job every day :-(

My current job we get 4.93 hours of paid time off per pay period (two weeks) so just shy of 10 paid days off a year. After five years with the company it moves up to 6 hours per pay period or something. Full time being 3-4 shifts a week (12 hour shifts) that's 2.5-3 weeks off a year, but no paid sick days or anything unless you ask to use your PTO. Double time for holidays and eight paid holidays a year (8 hours at regular rate if you don't work it). I only started in June and next week I'll have 48 hours of PTO already :D. But sometimes our shifts do run long, like right now I am unexpectedly working a 24, and I've worked a 36 once so far. My old job at a coffee shop no one got paid time off, even the full time manager. When I got this job and heard paid time off I was like "Wait, you mean I can get paid and not have to work?!" No shift diff pay though unless of course its a holiday. But I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world while I'm in college, I work full time nights and can study on shift.

A year goes by fast when your working all the time... stick with it and enjoy your very needed vacation when the time comes....and start planning that vacation with your girlfriend now... so that you both have something to look forward to... and she won't mind one bit helping you make the plans..
