Nah, not expensive, especially if your a good scrouger. (just don't try to get the valve from an installed spinkler system without turning the water off first)

Harbor Freight had them on sale a few weeks ago for $5. I bought mine at the Home Depot for $15. Just make sure you have a way to get rid of the extra water. They drip as little as 1/2 gallon per hour. That is 12g per day. If need be, you can have it run into a large tank/barrel that will need to be emptied regularly. A garden hose with a small submersible pump will do the trick.
