i have two overflow boxes in my tank, one in each corner. the problem i have is its sooo noisy, im guessing because the water fall into the boxes. what ways are there to quiet this noise? i mean its soothing.. but then gets irritating.

thanks

can you regulate/ change the speed of flow? Is it a gurgling noise like a toilet or is it the water splashing in the sump?

Mine is pretty quiet when the water is flowing through the sponges. When it flows over the top of them it gets a little loud.

I have a ball valve after the over flow on my 90, and when I choke it just enough to keep the water level above the exit tube (in the box on the back of the tank) it's dead silent.

You can also try something like this, but I've never done it http://home.everestkc.net/jrobertson57268/HGB/HGB_construction.html

I believe you can drill a hole in the top of your standpipe. Lie a weep hole maybe 1/16" or 1/8" diameter. It is like a siphon breaker.,

Doh!! I was thinking HOB overflow. Is it a durso style in the overflow section?

You can also put a piece of course filter foam just below the overflow slots and above the bio-balls..that should quiet it down.

Could even fill the overlowbox up with filter floss. That will quiet it down, plus act as a prefilter too. Then occasionally you will have to pull it out and either clean it or replace it. But it's cheap, even cheaper than many of the sponges out there.

You can pick up a kit such as one below. I have 2 of them in my AGA tank..and its quiet as hell.

With my new 240G Tenecor, its just a box, so I'm going to fabricate my own durso type such as the Megaflow kit.
