I just got a 200 gallon stock tank. I want something that will coexist with baby koi over winter (2-3" ers) and may need to pull koi in over multiple winters.

black shark maybe.

Black Sharks are FAR from gentile giants though lol Black Sharks have worse temperments than Red Devils. Now dont get me wrong, I LOVE black sharks, they are spectacular, but I own one and let me tell you, they are some of the most agressive fish you will find in the hobby.

:iagree: Not nice at all.

there's plenty of other large cyprinids that can coexist with the koi in this situation, even good ole reliable goldfish

With koi around, the tankmates should be tolerant of the lower temperature. Hifin banded sharks are not a good option to have in tanks. Dojo loaches fit the criteria quite well but if the koi are full-grown adults, there is a chance they may eat the dojos quickly. Can't hurt to try tinfoil barbs and balas though.

Carp are not fish eaters. Occasionally they eat a nymph or shrimp, but I dont think a fish.
The only fish eating cyprinids are the Hasu, the Squawfish, and the Asp.
