Does anyone know of any non-nocturnal pleco's? I've had 3 different species of pleco's in various tanks, and every single one I've got, always ended up hiding in a cave/back of the aquarium the whole time. I'd like to spend $ on a attractive pleco I can actually enjoy during the day.

i tried the search but couldn't figure out how to just focus it to this forum-room. ( too many results)

well my common plecos are pretty active during the day (for plecos) but honestly even at night plecos aren't as active as you might think

If yah can't find a non nocturnal pleco, can always have a camera to view them with or go nocturnal yourself.

Sometimes it can depend on the personality of your pleco. I’ve had mostly BN plecos. Some were active during the day and some were not. The two that I have right now in my 55 gallon are very active all day.

My L204s, emperor flash, are fairly out and about. I think part of the reason is that I have 4 of them in my 29 gallon tank. There's a definite hierarchy; so by having a small group of plecs, they may be more active as they defend territories and interact with each other.

It might be my water. Though I'm doubtful (or just hopeful it isn't).

I'm 90% sure they're scared of me, and 10% think it's possibly that my light's too bright. They're never out during the day/when the light is on, however every morning when I get up and visit them they're out. Then I flick the light on and they and the catfish scatter to their caves.

I'll have to experiment more I think. Just wake up and watch them with the light off and see if they scatter or not. . . . If they do still scatter. . I'll obviously a terrible pleco keeper.

What else do you have in the tank? Some dither fish might make your plecos more comfortable to come out during the day. I have lots of tetras in the tank with the L204s. And maybe some floating plants to help shade the top may help too.

Currently I only have maybe 6 tetra's, 5 molly's and a raphael catfish. (in a 150g tank!), Also, I have 4 floating plants.

There's is no substrate however, I'm going for a clean look trying to work out my filtration/removal techniques before the big fish go in. These were all put in just to cycle / prep my tank.
