I know you want to keep current t5 but seriously for $40 bucks you could do a DIY Rain Gutter LED. There is something about LED that just make colors POP on fish no T5 I have seen can compare
I think setting up a lower wattage group adds a nice aspect to a cichlid tank, have gloomy rear and sides with a lit area mid front is good, the fish can fade in and out from the shadows. Ime a bright tank is uncomfortable for me and the fish in my lounge. I've got enough to light up my 300g like the actual sun but never use it like I say, I light the middle 6ft.
Place the bulbs as far forward as you can as light then bounces of the visible side of the fish, mine are on the front bracing. I think having no rear lighting just intensifys the fish more.
a combination of pink spectrum and blue bulbs will make the water look crystal clear and work with the dovii.
