I got a big piece of "milaysian" driftwood with my tank. It was orignially attatched to a big piece of slate to hold it down. Well, I didn't like the fact that it had screws drilled through the slate and then into the drift wood so I took them out. Well, my problem now is that the driftwood will not sink on it's own and I have a 15lb rock holding it down. I am honestly not sure if this thing will EVER sink because it feels like I'm holding a basketball under water by itself :irked: Do some pieces of wood NEVER sink on their own? I tried tying it down with fishing line attatched to rocks but it lifted up both rocks I had it attatched too...haha.

i forget who it is but someone has had a piece floating for like 4 years...

imo unless you have fish who can throw the floating piece around just let it float... i personaly LOVE floating driftwood

i ad a few pieces float for over a year. i got tired of it and sold it... now all i buy is the ones that are guaranteed to sink.

i like floating drift wood too, makes fish's feel safer and gives some nice shadows as well.

I had a small piece floating for about 4 months. it's down now but it's still semi boyant. and wants to float back to the top. It moves arond ALOT.

Well I decided to pick up some stainless steel screws and drill it back onto the piece of slate. It's now fully secure and at the bottom. Maybe in a year I'll unscrew it to see if it'll stay on the bottom but I HIGHLY doubt it will.

If you don't like the slate showing goo it up with silicone and sprinkle your substrate over it. I did that with sand and a huge piece of driftwood that never had a hope of sinking.

A LFS has two huge pieces and I want one of them for my 720 but I am afraid of the same issue. Not to mention it leaching for 25 years

4 years, still floats........

Might not look it, but believe me, if I move the rock on the bottom right or move
it out from under the glass reinforced tops it floats like a basketball.
It took me a while to get it right, but I think I did alright with it being so buoyant.
