Noob Breeding Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nope, no fuzz. Still that nice egg yellow color. She stays in the pot, and he guards about a ft perimeter.

I am going to try to find a way to divide it tonight. I honestly don't think the male would hurt her. I know that with cichlids you never know, but he's not even mean to the fish that go near the eggs. He just swims over and lets his body move them out of the way.

I will keep the thread updated.

I'm really excited! Carpintis has really become my favorite cichlid, and they are NO WHERE to be found locally. I drove 3 hours to get mine.

Sounds like there could be some money to be made if your the only breeder there haha. GL with your fry OP!

Well, I found some at the pet place.. but no way someone will pay $30 for a 2" fish. :D And this was the first time in 3 years going there that I have ever seen them.

Welp, they hatched around 2am this morning.

Mom is keeping them in the corner, and dad is standing guard.

Mods please delete my post. Opened two threads on the same window and replied to the wrong one lol. :screwy::grinno:

Right now letting them do their thing until the fry food comes in the mail. Then I will be moving them.

Ok, so I moved the fry about 2 weeks ago as the mom kept moving them super close to the filter intake. They are in a 20, and are really putting on some growth. I have had almost no die offs either. We are feeding them Ken's fry powder, and soon we will be switching to the crumbles.

AND....

5 days ago they laid more eggs, all in which hatched this morning! Same pair as well. Not sure if I will raise these up or not. Might sell them to a petstore if I do.

Ok, well, the eggs have hatched, and they are free swimming. Mom and Dad are doing a great job, but they are having sooo many that they can't keep them all in the same group.. so I used my python and sucked them up into a bucket, and they are growing out in another 20 gallon tank.

They original batch has had no die offs, they get water changes every day, and they are about 1" already!
