As stated in previous thread, just got a 6" CK, and was planning to house him with angels in one of my 30 gal tanks. Now that i've realized that the 30 gal is too small, just wondering about how long do you think i have before i have to go to 150gals or more... always planned on doing it, but i've gotten a little scared by ppl saying they've grown to 10" or more within months.

He's currently in a 10 gal quarantine, where i keep all new fish for a week or so to observe before adding them. I planned (and still plan unless i hear different) to put him in a 29 gal with two angelfish, one black veil about 2" the other a koi angel about 2.5"...

How long do you think that that arrangement will be suitable before i'll have to step up the tank size, keeping in mind that i'll need at least a month and a half to cycle a new tank?

I'm supposing you put the CK in with the angels. So, how is it going? Do they get along?

a few months maybe, until the knife is 10in or so

You have to understand the the fish will grow at the slow or fast rate according to the size of the tank.

I have had a CK that grows literraly 1" in 9 months in a 20 gallon tank with 12" width (I had to separate them away from the RTC) and as soon as I put him in a 100 gallon, he grew about 2-3" in 3 months and still growing.

He'll grow out of it, but in 29 gallon will be a bit slower than if you put him in a bigger tank. Fish are creatures of habit, they'll adapt to their surrounding, they may no be happy about it, but they'll adapt the best they can.

You want your fish to grow fast, put him in a bigger tank.

Just be cautious about stunting your fish. I read on here not too long ago of a guy who has a 13" clown in a 75 gal. He's had it in there for 7 years. So although the fish may adapt to its surroundings, you need to be cognisant of the fact that you could stunt your fish and dramatically decrease its lifespan.
I housed a 2 clowns in a 20 gallon tall until one was about 8". I then moved it to a 50 long (about a month ago) and he's already grown another 2". I was forced to move the smaller one too (they started out @ 2" & 3" and ended up 6" & 10") as they both refused to eat without the pressence of the other.
I'd house it until it grows maybe an inch or two more...then move it. Any more than that and you run the risk of your angels becoming feeders.

Tank size has nothing to do with it. If you change the water enough a fish will outgrow a tank. Its just a matter of how clean you keep it.

good start of a thread im learning to just reading this stuff so far...

I've grown a CK from 2" to 11" in a 10g once. It only took 6 months.

I suppose if the water is kept immaculate the fish can still be grown out at a normal rate, even in a smaller tank?
