noob question but parents don't belive me.

Hi all. Basic question. Explained to my parents we might have to sell some of our fish. (tanganikyans, we originally had two 75 gallon tanks for them but one broke in transport). They dont like the idea. We have a 40 gallon, and they told me to put them in there. I told them that the tank needed to cycle. They said why dont you add water from the cycled tank and ornaments from there aswell. I explained to them that it still wouldnt be fish safe by tommrow. We also have stability and prime if needed. Am i wrong? Would it be ready?

Technically yes, all it would do is combine the parameters of the 2 types of water tho. It would have to probably be all cycled water to be your best bet.

You could get aquarium bacteria like API quick start, but you’ll have to keep supplying it to the tank for a week or whatever the instructions are. Cycling is always best in my opinion.

Quick start or safestart are great products. They will seed the tank with bacteria. It is always a good idea to keep an eye on the parameter and make sure things stay stable. You can add more as you do water changes as things settle in.

i’ve filled smaller tanks (40g-125g) completely with water from my established 750g system and had no problems - ive also used old media from other tanks in conjunction with cycled water to add to the new filters -

Any filter media, gravel, or extra sponge filter already in the 75 that you can spare? The bacteria are in the media, not the water BTW. I use old tank water for starting new tanks, but only as a measure of safety being the water isn't going to give me any surprises.

What happened to the OG filter media? If you have the media from the broken tank you can use it in a filter in the 40 and it'll already be cycled.
