Noob Question (Clearing Water)

like said before UV or move the tank, the blackout method will work, but you said it gets direct sunlight so the algae is bound to come back.
... um i can't really take out out the light as we are always getting sun these days, it is summer. So thanks guys i am trying the blackout to see how it'll go.
Hey Guys, so i have blacked out my tank for 4 days and nothing at all, did a couple water changes and it helped a little bit but not much. so any more ideas? I also looked into the UV idea, and is now debating.
Hey guys i have found the problem which makes me think STUPID STUPID STUPID! so. The filter is actually really dirty, 
i just realized that and cleaned it all up and all this green stuff came out that isn't water so i did a water change and cleaned the filter know things look alright. Except the fact that i think i am stupid. lolz. Thanks guys

lol i had that problem too but mine seemed a little redish not green...i dont have lights on my living room lights up all day sometime i turn on my lights.. but when i do a 60% wc i clean my filters and clean my gravel water gets filthy..in about two hours clear but then week later starts again...but the problem is that i didnt clean my filters rigt after the water change because in 5 hours that i had it on after wc filters were dirty so i cleaned them and now it takes longer for me to do a water change...i have a water softener at home but when i use my tap water it seems to last longer.....
so might help to clean your filters a few hours after a wc....sorry long reply..

That actually happened to me at one point ^ but the redish tint was on the glass and sort of grity like sand so all i did was brushed it off. I also found out that the algae is growing in the filter so i have to just kill them all. I don't get how that happens as no sunlight gets in the filter. Could just be dead cells idk.
