Noob to Piranhas with a 120g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Idk I don't think they develop teeth till bout 1/2" or so.I watch 1/2" rbp struggle with a blood worm almost daily.at this size two rbp will get on one bloodworm n fight over it, If they had teeth I think that they would cut it quickly but they usually fight over it for a few minutes.seems when they get over 1/2" is when I notice them actually biting through anything. I guess I have to go pull n cull a couple fry n babies n get the micro-scope out. When rbp hatch their eyes aren't even developed yet, I highly doubt teeth would form n develop before eyes.I don't think mouth is even fully developed until right before they start swallowing baby brine shrimp.

the teeth could be there but may not be long enough and not have enough muscle mass to produce enough force to cut through whatever they are trying to bit. at small size I think the "teeth" is just what they use to grip on whatever they are trying to bit or swallow.
I have never look under a microscope at different stage of fry's development so I could be completely BSing.

I'm not sayn your wrong, Idk when they develop myself.I figured the teeth came in when they start actually looking like fish.

i totaly disagree with feeding live food my self i would personly go with some caribs but if you cant get them go with 7 maby 10 reb bellies i would go with wild ones they are far more aggressive and fun for feeding wen they are smaller not above 3" i would feed them
prawns
any frozen fish
frozen blood worm
cichlid pellets (enhances colour)

wen they get older
frozen crabs
frozen mice (very occasionaly)
frozen lobsters

i would keep the ph around between 6 & 7.5

I'm not saying you are wrong either. fish are completely different than mammals and I just think once they hatched they should equipped with every surviving tools they need.
I guess we need a biologist to confirm the teeth development of fish, specifically piranhas

10 in a 120g? I wouldn't recommend.
Especially if you are going with "more aggressive" ones
prawns yes
any frozen fish - no. white frozen fish. you want to avoid fatty thing like salmon
blood worm- yes
cichlid pellets only enhance color depending on the brand.
frozen crab idk
frozen mice, I think you meant very rarely but I wouldn't do it at all
frozen lobster- again idk but can i live in your tank

sorry if it seams I'm picking apart your post but I'm sure there are some things that a lot of experienced people would, and have, disagree with.

I dunno, they might still have teeth its just the lack of being developed body wise enough to take advantage of them. I know if I were a 1/2 inch long I wouldn't be taking a bloodworm that would look more like a gigantic snake.:nilly:

For pretty much first week they're living off yoke sak, hell they don't even look like fish till they pushn 3weeks old.any younger than that n you can look right through them n barely even make out a backbone forming. N of course as everyone knows where I stand on live food, can't get no fresher than still breathing!n I definitely wouldn't be feeding my piranha crab meat!lol.anyone eating crab it be me, not my fish!ill share tilapia with em, but they aren't getting any of my crabs!
