I would give him whatever he wants at this size (feeders, beefheart) since they are fragile. Maybe after he packs some weight you should starve him into eating pellets
ok this is pretty easy. i have a baby clown knife.. yes they will grow over night. seriously. go to the grocery store and buy some fresh raw shrimp. Pinch of small peices of this and see if he eats it.
Combine this with feeding of frozen, not freeze dried blood worms and brine shrimp.
Your CK will likely enjoy this as a meal. Remember that they are nocturnal hunters. Feeding may best be done after the lights are off, but with a lamp in the room on to simulate dusk or moonlight. good luck
and watch this bad boy.. it is startling how big they can get, hope you are ready
When mine was small I got him to eat cichlid flake. Bloold worms work, but my gold knife fish didnt eat bloodworms and the regular clown knife did. He might not be eating when your there because they tend to be a pretty shy fish.
I am growing out a CK at the moment aswell. hes growing like a weed. I had one before him but my snakeheads blinded it so I put him out of his misery. That one would only eat blood worms... so i was tryin to feed this one blood worms but he wudnt touch them... threw in some pellets for my polypterus's and to my suprise he started housing them down.
I had clown knife fish that live for 6 years. Mine only eat life feeder fish or krill. It wont eat dead fish or anything that does not move. It eat during night time. It grow to 2.5 feet and very territorial. It will kill any fish that I put inside his tanks.
Had an 18 - 20 incher that LOVED hikari cichlid gold pellets. That's nice cause it comes in a super small size too. Try feeder guppies (small ones) and the tiny pellets at the same time, eventually they will catch on. That's how I got mine onto pellets. I only ended up giving him feeders for excercise/fun. GOOD LUCK!
my 4 inch CK loves cichlid gold too, but he likes the medium size pellets, I knew he could eat big food, but i didn't think it would be able to eat something that hard. It is also kinda funny because I have to suck it up with a turkey baster and then 'tap' his nose and he opens up and swallows it. He also eats live 3 or 4 every other day.
