As mentioned earlier, you will end up needing a bigger tank wether you decide to get your Oscar a tank mate or not. BUT. Be sure the tank you get is strong as large Oscars have been known to bust out of they're tank.
Thanks for all the info. I have him in the tank and all is going well, he seems at home with 2 small common plecos. I have another question and I didnt know if i should make a new thread about it or just keep it in here, so I'll just keep it in here under my "NOOB." Cause well that is what this question will be. I have noticed that some times my oscar is really a pale with orange ( when he is feeding) and other times he has dark sections on him (sleeping). The fish store had him listed as a red oscar? What is up with his coloring, or is this a common thing?
thats not a red oscar thats a tiger oscar.. the pet store normmaly keeps the reds/tigers/albinos/wild and outher together. But alota oscars from the lfs are mixed so i dont know and the color changes are normal
He is a "albino" tiger oscar. There is nothing different in all the species just color. It actually isnt albino just white. There is a term for it but I do not remember what it is. Be aware that those "small" common plecos will grow to 14" beasts sometimes bigger sometimes a bit smaller. Good luck with him and I'm glad to see that there are actually "noobs" out there that listen and research. You started with the right size tank. Atleast for like a year. Good luck
