I recently switched my african tank to sand. After doing so i noticed most of them rubbing there bodies on the sand occasionaly and some of the ornaments. Is this normal?
My do the same thing with the sand, I'm not sure if its normal as the tank is only two months old. They are all very healthy so its not them rubbing due to skin problems.
Thats what I thought but I had a friend come over and look at the tank. He said they have a parasite due to them rubbing on the sand. He made ma paranoid and now that my wolf got some wicked infection I just wanted to make sure.
ich is a common form of parasite disease in fishes. One of the symptoms of ich is fishes rubbing themselves against sand. If it is ich, you should see white spots like grain of salt in them. This is just one probability. Because there are many other reasons why fishes would do that. My theory is they are not used to the sand so they are probably feeling it out. Anyway, just keep on observing them and update us on this.
I dont believe it is ich. They no spots or anything on the their bodies. I actually raised the temp and added salt just to see if that would change their habit of rubbing on the sand. But it did not have any affect on them.
They're fine in my humble opinion. Mine constantly do that and have done so ever since I made my change to sand. I went from a gravel bottom to sand and larger stones.
