is it normal for a small ghost knife to rest in the plants of an aquarium, i picked up a BGK today and when i first got him in the tank he was exploring. i went out and when i came home he was in the corner by my sponge filter and kinda drifting onto his side and then righting himself. then he made his way into a plant and was just sitting in it, fins not moving... but when i moved the plant he backed out and then went back into the plant and rested agian

is this normal behavior?

When i first got mine a month ago it did that but now it seems fine. I dont know why they do it but mine is fine now.:)

thanks that makes me feel much better, :nilly: hes so cool, id hate to lose him soo soon

Never mind i looked at your signiture.:irked:

lol, he's only about 3" at the moment. he's in my 10g because i just switched from gravel to sand in the 75g and it went back into cycling. so its not ready for a sensitive fish like the knife. there is just a common pleco in the 75g now

I like sand better in my 2 75's im About to redo one and im making it a malawi tank and thinking of adding some large gravel in some areas or maybe river stones dont know yet.

i'd say large river stones... i have snad and gravel in my 10g and it looks like crap... :/ i'll be re-doing it once i get the 75g back up to speed and can move my senegal bichir and BGK into it. im gonna turn it into a dwarf puffer tank

the gravel will sink into the sand and it will be hard to find the right sand to gravel ratio. the larger river stones wont sink into the sand and you can easily pile them up to give your bottom some texture

i wouldnt worry about it. mine lays down on his side between the roof of his cave and the bottom of the tank. he is actually "sleeping" or resting. absolutely normal behavior for this oddball fish. mine has done some strange things. truly weirdos!
