Normal Jack Dempsey or Gold gene JD?

Light colored normal JD. The "gold" ones actually look pretty much pink at that size, almost like a pink convoict
It probably will. There are many factors that can determine coloration. Diet, genes, social hierarchy, and décor in the tank can all play a role. I'd say that is pretty normal coloration for a JD of that size, and it will probably darken up a bit at around 5". If it gets large and stays this color, you could consider trying a darker substrate. I wouldn't worry about it personally.
A good diet. Subdued lighting. Darker substrate (need not be black). Decor. These seem to do the trick for me.
