north american tank?

thinking of setting up a na tank w/ different types of sunfish. the types of fish i would like are a single large mouth bass, pumkinseed sunfish, and long eared sunfish. my questions are:
1. tank-how big? i know the bass will be large.
2. other fish? could i mix w/ cichlids, or anything else?
 
cichlids and centrarchids are practically twin fish families, I'd totally mix them up. Long-term I'd consider at least a 360g for the bass, but a 240g will last you a couple years if you want to upgrade later.

consider mixing 6 sunfish, one largemouth bass, 6 african cichlids, and 3-4 4-10" american cichlids (like JDs, salvini, convicts, rainbow cichlids, severums, istlanum, grammodes,) for a tank that would totally rock like no other.
 
If you want to stick with N.A. fish you could add Texas cichlid, yellow bullhead, yellow sucker. and bonytail ( 10", biright silver), stonerollers are cool also. Yould need a tank 240-350g but won't need a heater or chiller.
 
well, according to scientific studies, texas cichlids can't survive below 58F, so make sure its at least 60F...
 
thanks! i thought the bass would need a huge tank. as for water conditions w/ sunfish, do they do well w/ a ph of 7+? if i mix, it will be w/ ca and sa cichlids. as for the bass it will be in a tank for a while (until too big), then i will make a pond and keep out side.

Without the bass you could get away with a 150g easy, as far as ph and hardness, sunnies are very adaptable, I've even seen them in tidal waters that turned somewhat brackish at hightide.
 
u dont neccessarily need a north american ONLY tank


i currently house smallmouth bass with Pbass, 11in male JD, wolf fish , jurenese cat, jardini , pickerel, clown loaches


and so on
