Brother Delgado...

Our LOVELY San Diego tap water is HARD as a rock!! And alkaline as your

aunts underwear when hand washed in a vat of bicarbonate of soda!!!!

It SUCKS to drink(As you no doubt know) but AFRICAN CICHLIDS,

SUNFISH, LARGEMOUTH BASS and BULLHEAD CATS and CHANNEL CATS

SEEM to thrive in it. Also Midas cichlids and Dempseys and a lot of other

S. American Cichlids do ok in it.

As far as the heater..toss it, you wont need it. As far as mixing S. Americans and

Natives are concerned, I dont have much expereince in that, but if other people

here with way more experience than me in that area say it is ok...Id trust them.

There are a lot of sources for native fish out there, the classifieds here,

the Native American Fishs Association, and the various retailers and lfs.

Keeping natives is cool and isnt what everyone else has in their tanks.

Congrats!! PM me when you get time. Gonna send that heater temp info out

to you tonight.

FYI - every largemouth bass I've ever kept in an aquarium has been super aggressive. They tend to outgrow a 75 gallon within 2 years. Good luck, local fish are neat.

Suggestions: Redfin picks stay smaller, white/yellow perch, sunnies all make better pets than bass

Small LMBass get picked on by same size bluegill, A little time goes and the tables are turned. They make fine pets when kept alone and canned be hand tamed like oscars but like mbhw says, THEY GROW QUICKLY, even a 150g will crowd it before very long. Their are lots of fine natives out there including some colorful darters that reack 10"s or more. look up the rainbow darter, so much color it looks like it should be salt water.

i have a largemouth bass but its only this[ ]big it barely eats ground up flakes i also had a few fry but unfortunately they where quite delicate and died :(

It will like rinsed brine shrimp and black worms or tubifex.

Yr in Texas, so you should consider the state fish-the Guadalupe Bass. They're beautiful and not as mean/big as LM's. They are easier to get legally, too. You don't wanna get popped by the wardens just trying to stock a tank. Guadalupes are game fish, so they must be caught on hook and line, but there is no size limit. Drop a worm on a small hook in riffles near minnows in some Central Texas Rivers, and you could snag a little 'lupe. Check out Logperch, too. They're like overgrown, tiger-striped darters.
