North West ohio LFS rundown.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In sunbury? I take it it's a new store. Thats a smaller town. And the last time I was there it was all old person stores lol. You know little craft and candle sotres.

Either way I know where the town Is And if i head to clevland for my day trip over shutdown I'll try to swing by this place.

Thanks for the headsup.

lol I would make it down there to RJs this wekend Maybe I have to get some filter floss. So I might have to run to AA. But I will make it down there before the years out. Hell I found out today they might give us 2 extra days off work for the holidays b/c it's slow. They would be unpaid days but that's cool b/c I still get like 7 paid off. And like almost 21/2 weeks off to go around looking,

But why don' you do a review for us Jeff. You're the only one whos relly been there.

P.S. I hope to get pics from now on when i go. like rallysman's old thread. I found it the other day and it's sweet with pics so I am going to try it.

hahaha, i know right!!!

i call them all the time to see if they have anything i am looking for, and since they havent, i havent went. i think its about 45min to an hour from me, and since i should keep my spending to a minimum at the moment, i havent went.
every week i say maybe this thursday, but then i never go.
if i can get all the fish cleared out that i am trying to sell I WILL GO THIS THURSDAY !!!

if not, maybe i'll catch a ride with koop when he goes :)

as for the gar, i got him at jacks. they have 2 smaller ones in now, but mine was nice size.
he even said that about 2 weeks ago they accidently got a longnose in their shipment, but they sold it before i could see it (and buy it) :(

went on a lfs spree in the past few days hit pet zone in marion, KC's in galion, Fishy bus in bucyrus, and the upper place.

well here's the rundown petzone didn't have much which is the usual.

KC's had his big cats (been there a while now) peruno down to $100, and a juruense. big channel cat (looking for someone to take), a large tooth characin, and his usual wide variety of big cichlids (a medium dovii, big tilapia, oscars, etc.). if you go visit go to the basement and scope out the big dat and pbass, among his display fish.

fishy bus had the same 2 big clown knife, and the big clown loaches. other than that kinda low on fish but shipment will be coming in so i'm sure they'll be stocked up soon.

the upper place surprised me with a few, they had a niger cat around 6in but not for sale (was special ordered), and a few large synos $20, and a mated pair of jaguar cichlids around 4-5in.

o and to add to the list i forgot there is a lfs in ashland, carries mainly just the basics though

Hope to get time to go to KCs soon. Sounds good to me. I want to see the cats. And I might have to hit up kargs to see the niger. I asked one time about ordering from him and it didn't sound like he could. Might have to get back with him.

Gotta say i just got back from Dave's Tropicals in Toledo. Like mentioned before it was hard to find, nearly drove past it as it's a residential house converted into a pet store. Good amount of harder to find fish for such a small place. Was pretty impressed. They had a huge jag, 3-4 giant pacu, a 10-12" florida spotted gar, an 8-10 inch silver aro, 8-10 inch ornate bichir. Rather large clown knife. Tons of large oscars and more that i've already forgotten. The lady that worked there (didn't catch her name) was real nice and informative. Said they'd order any fish that i wanted that they didn't have in stock, and would beat anyone else's prices.

Then i got to watch Dave wrestle 2 huge pacu and the large jag out for a customer, so hey! Got a show before i left.
Edit: Just remembered, they have RTC's and a bunch of TSN/RTC hybrids as well as pike cichlids.
.

Nice sounds like daves stock rotates rather often most of those fish were not there when I was there. I'll have to head back up.

FINALLY!!!
as i went to get my new 150 today :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2 i drove right past Hebron, so as promised, i stopped into RJ's!

basically it was just a small Mom and Pop shop, 30-40 tanks, most of them being 30g's. no big displays, although they might have had some large tanks growing corals (but that doesnt count!)
basic tropicals, some saltwater, and a few "Good ones" ;) stuff like a 14" TSN, some bigger eels, a 18" giant gourami, some 6" RTC, medium sized saltwater fish... (think AA on a budget and 1/2 the suppliers ;))

everything was VERY clean, and very healthy looking (and to me that makes them better than most LFS)

my assumption is that they keep the ordinary stuff that most people have, and occasionally they get a chance to get some larger/nicer fish. they also said they get some good trade-ins on occasion.

i saved a few bucks on some Hikari food (no massivore), but other than that the prices seemed average. some of the fish that would run $50-60 at Jacks was 40-50, but no "steals" today IMO

my overall take was that it was a nice store, but at the moment i would say it is nothing worth driving for. if you are withing 10-15 miles, swing by and check it out. otherwise i would call and see if they have what you are looking for ahead of time.
