North West ohio LFS rundown.

Well, i went to Pet Supplies Plus on Airport And Reynolds in Toledo, and I couldn't believe it... they had silver arowanas! Small batch of 2 inchers. No egg sac, perfect barbels, looked pretty thin, one with immaculate fins, others with nipped fins. Never seen such small silvers in person before and definitely did NOT expect to see them at this chain store.

I just moved to the Dayton Cincinnati area.... Any info on this location? I hear there are some great places around here.

Yup.....

Ok I went sought yesterday. and I hit two LFS that was sugested from my thread about LFS in cincy area. Here's what I got..

Monfort aquariums. Pretty much blows. I know it's harsh but I was almost 3 hours away from home and I walk into this place and it's "diplay" tank is a 60 gallon hex?! If you want a very little selection of fish and a smaller selection of decor/equip. go there. the ONLY thing they had that was monster was one juvi RTC. but I didn't even look at the price.

Now a litle on there deffence.... Maybe.... I don't know salt water and they had about half the store split into salt so if you're a salt person it might be worth your trip.

Aquatics and Exotics.... This place gets HIGH rating from me. It has a 10K Black tip reef shark disply. with two sharks and they were both about 4' Very impressive.

they had a really good selection of freashwater monsters too. they had...
nice sized lung roughly 22" for like $80. A 10" and 12"+ dovi. A wild caught Pass (not sure the species). A few VERY large RBPs. A feste (SP) that was about 8". A nice sized adonis ~10". And some others things that were pretty cool.

Now this place is again largly salt but what they have in fresh water is a pretty good selection too. But they cater to satl b/c they have a 10K salt tank a 400gallon salt tank. and 5= other display tanks that are all salt. and only one planted freshwater tank that only had rainbows in it for display.

the downfall of this place is that they seem to really like acrylic tanks. they had about 10 of them for sale the largest being 100gallons. and It was a really weird design. It had curved corners but a rectangle bottom. and it sat on two black acrlyic pilllars the held the filtration. well this tank was scratched up pretty good and they still wanted $800 for the tank stand and filtration.

SO if you're going to be in the cincy area look this place up it's not to hard to find and it's worth it for nothing else then to see the reef sharks.

Did you pick up the Lung? That would go sweet in your setup!

I thought about it but I need to do some more looking about the ablilty to cohab these guy. I have plenty of room for one and would love to do it. but i'm not sure they will cohab with my other fish. at least I know where to get it if I do. and the size of this guy and price was good enough that if I do decide on it I would be willing to make the drive again.

i dont know anything about them, but 80 sounds like a steal

in my book any fish thats 22" it probably worth 80 ;)
then again, koop only likes 3 fish per tank :screwy::banhim:

I finally made it to the Lima Jack's last weekend. They didn't have a great fish selection, but that will probably change a little over time. They did have a few species you don't normally see at Jack's stores like horse-face loaches. As far as the "pond," I think calling it half the size of the one in Bellefontaine is a little generous. It's small and I didn't think the stocking could get more boring than ours, but they somehow managed lol. Also, the one girl I talked to didn't seem to know much about anything, but I'm sure it's just a part-time high school job and she's new, so I'll cut her some slack. I didn't talk to any management. Little different setup than most Jack's and it does seem big. Overall, looks like a good store.
