If it was a pike it must have been a starving one more then likly it was a tiger musky or a noraml musky. If it was a pike your should consider yourself lucky to see this type of feeding behavior, as pike dont make a habit of eating ducks.

Last spring I watched two northerns tag team some ducklings. It's not as rare as you might think.

theres a far cry from ducklings to full sized ducks I will not doubt that when theres an abundence of little ducks swimming around that a few will be picked of by fish. Hell ive seen a Largemouth bass eat a duckling. But seeing a full sized duck getting striked at or eatin is a much rarer thing. While in northern Michagan I did see a musky take down and eat a duck but in waters that have both species of esox your more likly to see a musky or tiger musky eat a duck then a northern pike.

Care requirements aside, I am not sure how one could house one short of a good size pond, Redfin or grass pickerel would be options likely better explored.

It is already proven that Northern pike able to take down full sized mallards and its not that rare as its all over the world (Northern pike also live in Alaska, Canada and Europe). There are two records that they found 2 month old baby bald eagle in Northern pike's stomache (both pikes were caught in same area where the bald eagle nest were knock down and the eaglets fell in the water) and both pikes were over 40". Sure northern pike have hard time to take down a fullgrown mallard but it can be done in under conditions.

thats what i was hinting at pike can eat a full sized duck but its not a common thing. Now a strugling baby eagle flapping around would be more of a target, then a duck thats just swiming around.
