Were I come From there called northern Pike even in the regs. or as us hillbillys like the call them Jack Fish

Northern pike (Esox lucius) are a different species than pickerel, in this case chain pickerel (Esox niger).

It's legal to keep natives here in the United States. People here definitely don't advocate keeping illegal fish. In certain places, snakeheads are legal, and those that keep asian aros aren't in the United States. Some places need certain permits and things, some places don't.

I've never heard any type of pickerel or pike called jackfish, the only jacks I know of are saltwater fish, Crevalle Jacks or Amber Jacks.

ah, i misread the original post. I thought you meant US hillbillys, like United States, you meant us like you folks up there. Regional names aren't uncommon. I'm from Maryland and Striped Bass are known as Rockfish to us. Everywhere else they're stripers or just striped bass. Always been rockfish to us.

i make fishing lures so i do ALOT of looking at these freshwater fish...awfully cold rite now here in jersey.. but when it warms up i can get lots of pics on =)

hey chilid fiend i do the same thing! i love fishing and id like to set up a tank of natives... i have heard bass need alot of water.. and for the tank i have a spot were i can catch some pikerel and bass under 5 inches.. so i was wondering what gallon i need for this?

I don't have pics, wish I did, but last summer we caught some yellow perch in a pond near our house. We aslo had some pretty types of pumkinseed sunfish. Had just gotten a 125 gallon to house our channel cat so we figured we would put the yellow perch and sunfish in, at the time we didn't know what the yellow perch were so we had to look them up on google, unfortunately they all had black spots on them and when we learned that this was some type of parasite we had to remove them all and of course we worried that our other fish would get it but they never did... The yellow perch were such nice fish good sized too I think they were about 7-9 in..
looked soemthing like this
Oh yea had many striped bass too and the oscar had them all coraled into the corner of the tank lol he was only 5 in.

but with many black spots on them...
