If this is a NWS, can anyone offer any tips on their habitat.I cannot for the life of me find how their tank should be setup.Someone told me that they need some dry land, because they blister if they don't.

If you cant keep her for life why do you keep her at all:confused: And yes most water snakes do need a large dry land area in wich to bask and hide:D

Keep it like other colubrid snake species like kings but provide a large enough water dish/pan that they can get into. You should be able to get the snake off of a fish diet and on to rodents and this will help you out a lot re: smell and cage cleaning.

looks like a nice little water snake, some people say they make great pets but others say they are horrible pets because they tend to bite and spray feces when picked up

i tried to keep one that i caught up in the lake erie area, it was extremely aggressive and would spray feces the second it was handled. It would only eat live fish, showed little interest in a pinky. I released it back into the wild.

Mine does emit musk, but he hasn't voided himself on me, yet! I was told they need a dry spot because they get blisters. Is this true?

By the second time yes they need and yes they will get them if not provided with such, like most water snakes. Tentaculated and elephant trunk snakes are the exception;)

I am keeping it for life. It's going in a 29 tonight! It is like 5-6 inches long.I will upgrade when and if needed.I just talked to a friend on AIM who told me about the wet/dry and hides plan.I also will be providing a light for basking.
One more question. What will make good hiding spots for him?
