Not a monster tank, but new nonetheless ;)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Would 2 more boards b sufficient( i would rather not distroy the tank)? We don't have plywood left, reason for the too late. But we have some extra lumber i believe. 2 more laying flat(would b 24in support on both sides).

Well my damage repairs were over $1200, and we caught it as soon as it happened. How much does plywood cost there?

Uh... I don't remember how much it was, we just bought it for the doors and sides of the stand. Didn't pay attention to price. But total was about $175 for all wood supplies. It'd b an ordeal to go get more. But if i used the 2' boards, that'd leave, what... 4in open in between each board? 16in total open space spread out across the tank? That's just gotta b enough coverage...

Acrylic tanks need FULL bottom support hence the recommendation to use plywood on the top of the stand.

So. After arguing with the husband. I convinced him full support is necessary, so. Postponing until we can get plywood. Hopefully next few days.

How thick does the plywood need to b? What's the thinnest yet effective board i can use?

Honestly cheapest way is to pick out some straight 2x4's and lay them next to each other. I was going to go plywood board route but its more expensive and weaker than 2x4's. My local lowes sells 2x4x96 for 1.98. So a 2x4 is actually 3.5 inches wide so you're going to need 20-21 side by side pieces which are 24'' long. If you buy the 96 inches you go through 5 which is about 10 bucks lol. But if you go this route you do need styrofoam inbetween the tank and the 2x4's.

Alright. Got 1/2" plywood covering entire bottom of tank. There's NO POSSIBLE WAY it could collapse or bow.20140609_181136.jpg20140609_181149.jpg20140609_183853.jpg
