NOT a true parrot (confirm)

This was sold to me as a true parrot, which I argued against to the very end but I wanted it and had been watching its personality etc etc so it doesn't matter what it was so much.

Anyhow I don't think it is a true parrot cihlid, I am almost sure of it.It has a mild temper and looks like an angry geophagus (and, yes, mildly like a true parrot cihlid)

It's a Hypsophrys nicaraguensis, looks male as well. Glad that you saved him, nice pickup!

Nicaraguense it is. Someone posted a thread a few weeks ago with the same issue. Common names will kill you. Hoplarchus spitticus is the "true parrot" you were probably hoping for, fyi.

A Nic.,which has also been called Parrot Cichlid,in the past.

Nics are actually called Macaw cichlids. Macaws are parrots so thats where the confusion can come in.

Nope - very similar in appearance, chocolates get much larger and have completely different color patterns. Very similar in morphology.

I have this fish... it's a Nic. But, that is exactly like my female, the male doesn't have the black lateral line from head to tail.
