I have this fish... it's a Nic. But, that is exactly like my female, the male doesn't have the black lateral line from head to tail.
Its a male you can tell by how the finage has a lot of spots females have little to no spots on their fins. Heres an example( not my pic got it from the internet).

Nope - very similar in appearance, chocolates get much larger and have completely different color patterns. Very similar in morphology.

temporalis or coryphenoides are completely differnt than an nicuaguense, not even close

Very nice fish indeed. i have three of them swimming around in my 125. They can get pretty aggressive later down the line, if they haven't yet established their territory. My first one was pretty mild-tempered but the ones i have now are aggressive. They're beautiful nonetheless.. kinda reminds me of a colorful elongated tropheus. I like the way these fishes interact in the wild with their enemies the Hypsophrys nematopus and their predator the parachromis dovii

thanks everyone.

to reply to a few things that were brought up this fish can and often does make the lateral line disappear but had it on in full when the pics were taken (shortly after a little flare up at my pike).

Also does appear to be starting a hump I was wondering about that but forgot to ask.
