Well, I decided to go with the Qiukrete Pool Filter Sand. And I am glad I did.
I arrived at the Pool Place this afternoon where I found the sand and there Manager was there helping with inventory.

I told him I was there to buy the remaining bag's of sand he had.
He asked the guys there to load up the sand in my car, shook my hand and said have a safe drive home.
No money exchanged hands.

So since I bought the first bag yesterday, 350lbs of sand cost me $10.00:nilly:

first off, good buy on all the sand for 10 bucks lol. also did you look into landscaping pebbles from home depot or lows? i think its like $5 for a 50lb bag.

Around here, all that is sold at HomeDepot/Lowes is Pea Gravel.
And the Pea Gravel has not been tumbled so It has really sharp edges on it.
Not to mention, the bags are so dirty that it looks like they just scouped the stuff right out of the creek bed.

The Pea Gravel sold at Homedepot is from American Country.
The Pea Gravel from Lowes is made by Sakcrete.

I sent both companys a e-mail asking them if there gravel was safe for aquariums and did not contain any type of additives or fertilizer's.

American Country did not return a responce, but Sakrete did and they said there Pea Gravel was NOT safe for aquatics use.

maybe some bags have sharper pebbles than others, but anyway ive used the pea gravel it may 55gal for around a year now. you have to flush/wash it for about 20 to 30 min. to get it clean at first. havent had any losses in that tank so far so i think it should fine additive/fertilizer wise. but thats just my opinion, each to his own.
